Wallets and the trading key

Your wallet is your account. It signs one approval for a trading key that this browser keeps, and from then on that key signs your orders.

Supported wallets

  • Browser wallets: Rabby and any other extension that announces itself to the page (EIP-6963).
  • MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet: the extension when it is installed, otherwise the phone app through a QR code.
  • Other phone wallets: open the desk in the wallet app's own browser.

Coinbase Wallet works with its key-based wallet only: passkey smart wallets produce signatures the exchange cannot use to approve a trading key. WalletConnect is not supported.

Trading from a computer with a phone wallet

Without the MetaMask extension, the connect dialog offers Use MetaMask on your phone and shows a QR code. Scan it, approve the connection and sign the trading-key approval on the phone. After that the computer trades with its own key, and the phone is not needed again until the key is renewed.

On the computer, open Settings → Account → Phone and click Link a phone. Your wallet signs once more (no gas) to approve a separate trading key for the phone, and a QR code appears. Scan it with the phone's camera: the desk opens on your account, ready to trade.

  • The phone's key can place and cancel orders but cannot withdraw. It is valid for 30 days; link again from the computer to renew it.
  • The code shows for a minute at a time and the computer never stores the key. Linking another phone ends the previous one.
  • Deposits, withdrawals and approvals still need the computer with your wallet.
  • Unlink in the computer's Settings revokes the phone's key on the exchange at once. On the phone, Unlink this phone only forgets it there.

Anyone who sees the QR code can trade your account until you unlink it. Don't screenshot, photograph or share it.

The trading key

When you click Start trading, the page creates a new key and your wallet signs the exchange's approval for it. The signature costs no gas.

  • The key can place and cancel orders and change leverage. It cannot withdraw or transfer funds.
  • It is valid for 180 days. In the last week an amber banner offers Renew, one more gasless signature.
  • Approving a key again replaces the previous one.
  • Settings → Account → API wallet can replace it with a new one, or remove it from this browser. To end it on the exchange as well, approve a new key or let it expire.

The key is stored in this browser profile. Anyone who can use this profile can trade your account with it until it expires or is replaced. On a shared computer, remove it in Settings when you are done.

Several tabs

Tabs of the same browser share the trading key. They take turns to sign, so two tabs never send conflicting requests, and only one of them adds a pending trailing stop.

Watching an address

Watch an address in the wallet dialog opens any account read-only: positions, orders, history and calendar, without a wallet. Saved addresses are in the Track tab; see Tracking wallets.

Testnet

Settings switches between mainnet and testnet. On testnet the top bar shows an amber "Testnet" tag, and the trading key, alerts and watchlists are kept separately per network.

Account types

Standard accounts and unified or portfolio-margin accounts both work. Unified accounts keep their collateral as spot USDC; the desk reads balances from the right place for each.
